Good afternoon, Algonquin families! Just a friendly reminder that our Family Play Day & Hispanic Heritage Celebration Parade is coming up on Friday, September 25th!
Families are invited to join us at 9:30 AM or 1:30 PM as we play, learn, and celebrate together!
To add to the celebration, students and families are encouraged to:
❤️ Wear the colors of your classroom country
💜 Wear something representing a Hispanic movie or show
💚 Wear a piece of cultural clothing
ALL families are welcome! We can’t wait to celebrate the beautiful cultures that make our Algonquin community so special.
Different cultures. One bright future. Let’s Color the World, Algonquin!

We are so excited to celebrate Spirit Week next week! (Sept. 21- 25) We hope our students and families will join the fun and show their Algonquin school spirit all week long!
Check out the flyers below for each day’s theme. We can’t wait to see all of our Algonquin colors shining bright!
Let’s Color the World, Algonquin, and show everyone that we’ve got SPIRIT! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

Good morning!
We're eager to see all our Algonquin families tomorrow, Wednesday, August 19th! Please read the attached letter for up-to-date first day procedures. Please do hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions.

Hello SD 163 Families!
Please see the important communication from Dr. Ericka Patterson, Superintendent of Schools, as it relates to the start of the 2026 - 2027 School year.

One of the things that makes Algonquin PreK so special is the incredible team behind it. Our CREW doesn't just show up to work — they show up for YOUR children, every single day. 💛
Recently, we took a moment to celebrate the birthdays of our amazing team members because a staff that feels celebrated brings that same joy into every classroom, every story time, and every little milestone your child reaches.
When our educators love where they work, your children feel it. 🌟
Thank you to our Algonquin PreK family — staff, children, and parents — for making this such a wonderful place to grow, learn, and belong. Here's to many more celebrations together!

This week, our PreK scholars at Algonquin Early Childhood Center planted their very first flowers — kneeling in the soil, trowels in hand, faces full of wonder. They may not know it yet, but they are beginning a journey that runs all the way through District 163. 🌸
Over at Barack Obama School, that same journey has blossomed into something incredible. 🥕🍅 Our older scholars aren't just learning about plants — they are growing food and selling it at the Farmers Market. Real produce. Real customers. Real entrepreneurship. These students are building life skills in agriculture, business, and community service all at once.
This is what a PreK–8 horticulture pathway looks like in action. Today's little gardener digging in a flower bed is tomorrow's young entrepreneur selling at the market. 🌻
District 163 is growing more than plants — we are growing future leaders.

This morning, we received a call from the Park Forest Police Department notifying us of a suspect in the area. Out of an abundance of caution, we immediately initiated a lockdown to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
During this time, our security guard escorted all arriving students safely into the building, and families were kindly asked to remain in their vehicles. We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we worked to keep everyone safe.
We are happy to report that the suspect was apprehended, and we received the official all clear. School is operating normally.
🙏 A heartfelt thank you to the Park Forest Police Department for their swift action and for keeping our school community safe. We are grateful for their partnership and dedication.
The crafts, snacks, games, and of course the PIÑATA had our little ones smiling from ear to ear! 🪅✨ We are so grateful to be part of a community that celebrates together and creates these special memories for our kids. Gracias to everyone who made it happen! 💛❤️💚
