Mrs. Cooney and the Barack Obama Drone Team participated in the 2025 General Motors North Central ADC Championship: Ingenuity, held this past weekend at Kettering University in Flint, Michigan.
Team members Lindsey Clemons (Grade 5), Luis Garcia (Grade 5), Kaden Hamlin (Grade 5), Aiden Talbert (Grade 4), and Kyrie Wilson (Grade 4) competed against middle school students in grades 6 through 8, representing 24 states and four countries.
Despite the age gap, the Barack Obama School of Leadership and STEM placed 6th out of 26 teams and earned the prestigious Judges Award for their exceptional use of technical vocabulary and poise during interviews. The judge was so impressed that he asked the students to confirm their grade levels during the session.
