Dear Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163 Community,

The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) released our annual School Report Card on Oct. 30th at The Report Card shows how well our school is progressing on a wide range of educational goals. We are proud of our students' growth in Mathematics and English Language Arts.

This progress reflects the investments we have made in curriculum support resources, professional development, intervention teachers and programs, coaching, and instructional leadership. Through the Evidence-Based Funding model of supporting schools across Illinois, we were able to invest in additional resources to implement our District 163 goals for continuous academic improvement.

One component of the School Report Card is the summative designation -- a descriptor of how well our schools are meeting the needs of all students. The Summative Designation is shown on each School's Report Card and is based on eight indicators of academic success and school quality. The indicators are proficiency in English Language Arts (7.5%), proficiency in Mathematics (7.5%), growth in English Language Arts (25%), growth in Mathematics (25%), Science proficiency (5%), English Language Learner proficiency (5%), School Climate Survey (5%), and Absenteeism (20%).

For the first time ever, these designations and academic indicators appear alongside site-based expenditures -- how much money our district spends per student at each school. With these two data points, we have the opportunity to take a closer look at the financial investments in educational programs.

We encourage you to give us your feedback. I invite you to complete the 5 Essentials Survey at your child's school and attend your Principal's Title I meetings. Your voice is important to us as you share in the vision for excellence. We hold high expectations for all students and believe every student can meet our expectations with the right supports. Thank you for your continued partnership to ensure every child in Park Forest-Chicago Heights School District 163 is thriving.
