Dear Parents and Guardians of Blackhawk Primary Center Students,

It is with great anticipation that we embark on another school year filled with new accomplishments, mind stretching challenges, and refreshing fun.  It is my personal belief that it takes a village to raise a child and the mantra for Blackhawk Primary Center as we enter into the 2018-2019 school year is “We are developing a great school one family at a time”.  This mantra is at the heart of what we believe is critical to push students to new heights and to encourage a school community that is grounded in the idea that “The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.”~Aristotle

It is my personal belief that at Blackhawk Primary Center we service the most loving, intelligent, and hard working group of students on the planet and that we can accomplish anything!  That is why we believe that EVERYONE must be held accountable for the success of students.  I challenge all families to get to know the staff, make time to visit our school (both during school and during evening events), and keep the lines of communication open with your child’s teacher.  In turn, I will continue to encourage my staff to get to know their students both personally and academically, reach out to families with positive news and information about critical areas of need for students, and have a relentless attitude about what it will take to ensure that students learn!

As I have said in previous years, you can expect that your child will be challenged to think critically in all subject areas, to develop their character in ways that contribute to a society of individuals who care about others, and who analyze and question information daily. You might think that sounds like a lot to accomplish at the tender ages of five through nine, but if we don’t start now, then when??? To that end, our staff are renewing their minds, fine tuning their passion and getting ready for a journey with young minds that is sure to cultivate productive scholars of tomorrow.

I am excited about the future of the 2018-2019 school year and the opportunity to serve the families of Park Forest/Chicago Heights.   As a parent of two daughters, I know the worries associated with sending your children to school, so thank you in advance for entrusting me with the task of supporting them!  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.  I can be reached at 708-668-9501 or ejohnson@sd163.com. I look forward to seeing each of you and your children on August 27, 2018.

    3. Car riders - In order to ensure the safety for all students at Blackhawk Primary Center, we ask that you drop off and pick up your child on “school curb side” of Blackhawk Drive during the hours of 7:45 to 8:15 to ensure safe entry and exit for our busses.
    4. If you drop students on the opposite side of the street, we ask that ALL students walk to the crossing guard—to ensure safe crossing.  This request is in accordance with the Park Forest Police’s guidelines.
